SUMMATIVE TASK- MEDIA

To assess the students understanding of the CI they were asked to brain storm the various social problems that exist in the society and  reflected on various media forms that they could use to spread an awareness to solve the issue.
They were creative enough and used media like newspaper writing, t shirt designing, candle march, designing mobile app, designing web browser, making trailers and I movie etc. It was great to see how children took pride in showcasing their understanding of the unit.

Bar graph, Area & Perimeter

The concept of bar graph was introduced through packets of gems. Students arranged different coloured gems in vertical lines to figure out the maximum and minimum coloured gems. They learned about the concept of place value and also filled in ‘Fake cheques’ to write and compare numbers. A situation from the story ‘Spaghetti and meatballs for all’ was given to students in which they had to accommodate 32 guests on 8 tables. It was very interesting to find students brainstorming various combinations and arrangements. From this strategy, they were introduced to the concept of perimeter. Thus, discovering that perimeter is always calculated by going around the figure and adding the measurements of its sides. For hands on experience, students measured and calculated the perimeter of different polygons drawn on the floor.

Talk session by Mr Monga

Mr Monga - a lawyer who deals with ethical and legal code associated with media.

It was a pleasure to have Mr Monga who is a lawyer by profession and who deals with the legal and ethical issues related to media. He gave students an idea of how an ad goes through a critic before being finalised for its promotion. He also talked about the norms involved in making an ad and if comparing it with other ads need to behave with certain code of conduct. It was truly an enriching experience.
